The New York Times International Luxury Conference took place in Florida this week, acting as a preamble to Art Basel Miami Beach, which opens to the public tonight. The Luxury Conference brought together a myriad of diverse representatives who aim to merge art, fashion, science, and technology to create a more sustainable industry in a world that is rapidly becoming limited in its resources. The list is long, but one of the most impressive speakers was Suzanne Lee of Biocouture. Her company explores creating new and sustainable textiles using live cultures to, in turn, produce zero toxic waste. Other notable speakers were Skylar Tibbets of the M.I.T. Self-Assembly Lab, Stefano Pilati of Agnona, and Fiorella Terenzi of the Physics and Astronomy Department at Florida International University, to name a few.
